Our Growing Practices

Organic Principles

Here at Little Farm Fresh we are always striving to use the best practices to improve our soils health and to grow the most nutrient-dense vegetables. We  use Organic Practices in all of our farm's operations.  We use Organic Seeds to start our plants and never use any chemical additives on the farm (pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides). We use Netting, Crop Rotations, and close monitoring to deter pest issues.

Regenerative Farming

We focus on using Regenerative Farming practices. This type of farming goes beyond  organic and attempts to improve the overall ecosystem of the land. Regenerative farming strives to protect the biodiversity in the soil and builds the organic matter in the soil. This results in nutrient dense vegetables for us to enjoy! Here are some of the regenerative farming practices we use in our gardens that go beyond organic:

  • We keep our gardens soil covered with either Cover Crops or re-usable landscape fabrics when they are not in growing season. This helps the micro-organisms thrive in the soil and prevents erosion.

  • We use minimal soil disturbance whenever possible. This means no heavy or deep tilling of the soil to protect the soil's ecosystems and health.

  • We use hand tools to keep our impact low.

  • We feed our soil with compost, green manures and animal manures (chicken) to enhance the biological function of the soil.

  • We maintain our land's biodiversity by protecting our wild spaces and being mindful when creating new garden plots to include healthy pollinating areas.

  • We use drip-line irrigation whenever possible to reduce our water usage on the farm.

  • We use bio-intensive farming that uses less space for high-yields.

  • We use succession planting and intensive spacing to grow the most vegetables from the least amount of space possible.

  • We have incorporated living pathways, pathways that we mow down through out the season, to further protect the soil.
